Galway Grind School

I attempted to launch a grind school based in Galway with a friend of mine in 2018.

After a good deal of marketing, we did not receive enough bookings to make the business viable and the business was scrapped before running our first set of classes.

Interesting Notes

Before we could start trying to get bookings to test our idea we needed to ensure we would be able to run the courses we were offering.

We sourced classrooms within Galway city that we were able to preliminary book. We also sourced teachers that were willing to work on commission in order to get the school off of the ground.

Learnings

Ultimately, we were entering a slightly overcrowded market with little product differentiation.

There were three private schools within the city that were offering classes and were directly competing with our offering. We had thought that by introducing a lower price point, this would allow us to compete.

Our findings were that those who were going to take after school support were less interested in the price point of the classes, but more interested in quality.  As a result, students opted for more established schools that already had a solid reputation.
